Company
A small team with a big map to draw.
panluminate is a Yale spinout in New Haven commercializing pan-Expansion Microscopy, which our founder Ons M'Saad invented at Yale in the lab of Joerg Bewersdorf. We are about a dozen people building the chemistry, instruments, and software to map the brain at scale.
Our story
From a Yale lab to a platform
- Invented at Yale. pan-ExM was developed in the lab of Joerg Bewersdorf and first published in Nature Communications in 2020.
- Proven in brain tissue. Our 2025 Nature Biotechnology paper showed specific molecules in the full ultrastructural context of brain tissue, with light microscopy alone.

Careers
What we look for in everyone who joins us
We are a small team, so your work is seen and used, and you sit close to the people making decisions.
- Natural curiosity. Ask why things are done the way they are, and follow your questions.
- A willingness to learn. Many of us came to this science from somewhere else.
- Making suggestions. Feedback goes both ways here. It is how each of us, and the company, gets better.
- A good sense of humor. The work is hard. We try not to take ourselves too seriously while doing it.
